Our Horses

We like to introduce our horses to you.

We ride on warmblood horses, thoroughbreds and arabian horses, as they have a long breath and a never tiring will for long distance riding. Training them especially for the mountain work makes that we have a challenging travel companion for you. Full of strength and courage. But in the same time be surprised how cool in the head and safe our horses are.
Especially for the novice rider we use reliable and easy horses, to give them the trust and safety that he or she needs.
For the children we have 2 Welsh ponies, who are real children ponies, very sweat and safe.

Aspri

Billy Diamond
Diamond is a thoroughbred, born on 27-01-1998 in Great Britain, by his breeder Mrs. Susan Scargill.
His father is Bin Ajwaad (Ire.) and he is born out of the mare Call Me Madge (damsire is Distant Relative).
Although he has a career family, Diamond decided to take his life easy and leave the racing to the others.
Diamond is with us since he was 3 years old and straight from the beginning made Aspri to be his private girlfriend.

Selini

Evropi
Evropi meaning Europe is a mare and born with us on the 2nd of April of 2002. Selini is her mother. In the spring of 2005 she started with her first trainings. In 2006 she did her first trek.

Black Beauty

Mangas
Mangas means Macho in greek. He is a Berber, gelding and born in 1996. The ultimate endurance horse, he loves working. He is small but unbelievable strong and never gives up.

Naomi

Mama
Like a real mama she is the leading mare of the whole herd. Mama is a Dutch warmblood and born in 1989, her father is the thoroughbred Lucky Boy. She is in our stables from our start.
Mama gave birth to two beautiful foals. The first one in 1998, is a mare called Kriti. And the second one in 2002, is a stallion called Eros.

Kriti
The very first foal born by us on 11-07-1998, and therefore named after the island. Kriti is a Dutch warm blood, her mother is our alfa mare Mama and her grandpa is the KWPN stallion Animo.
In 2006 Kriti gave birth to a mare foal called Gaia. Now we have 3 generations of mares in the stables.

L'amoure
He is a greek warmblood, gelding, 175 cm high and born in 2000. Big and sweat. He is bred for the show jumping and that is his big hobby. His full brother, with the same father and mother, is Salvador.

Brave and happy.
This gelding is born in 2004 on the island Crete. He came to our stables in December 2008.  

 

Stougjeshoeve Daisy
Daisy is a Welsh B pony, mare and born on 20-05-1998 in the Netherlands. The father is Breeton Dai and she is born out of the mare Kortehoeve's Danielle, Damsire is Twickel's Julius.
With her gentle behavior and only 1,28 cm high, she is an ideal children pony.

Afroditi is a Welsh A pony born with us on 20-05-2004.
Her father is High Flown's Viper and her mother is High flown's Seren Camai.

But for all our horses counts that they are friendly, well cared for, good fed, well trained and all have an excellent condition for the long distance riding.
The horses are trained english but they can be ridden with long rains

Aspri
In greek Aspri means white and that is how she got here name. Aspri is an arabic mare with a very gentle character. Aspri is with us from the early start of Odysseia Stables. Aspri is born in Great Britain.

Selini
Selini is a Patra mountain horse this race is best descript as a greek warmblood horse. These horses come from origin from the mountains surrounding the village of Patras, located on the west coast of the Greek Mainland.
The name Selini means Moon in Greek, as her color looks like the surface of the moon.
Selini is a mare and gave birth to her daughter Evropi in 2002.

Evropi

Beauty (Retired in 2009)
This mare is a local Cretan horse, the race is called Jorkalidiko, which means quick walking. As they do the tolt.
This mare is the only Jorkalidiko that we have in our stables, as there are only around 150 Jorkalidiko's on the island. This race is an endangered species and protected by the European Community.

Naomi
She is the photo model, she is beautiful and has character. This mare is a thoroughbred, and she is also with us from the start of the Odysseia Stables.
If we would make a race with all the horses of the stable she would leave everybody far behind her.

Eros
Eros the Greek god of love, the only right name for a stallion. But Eros was castrated on 26 November 2005.
Eros is a thoroughbred  born on 20-04-2002. His mother is Mama and his father is the thoroughbred Titos.
In 2006 he joined his first Trek.

Bagors
Bogor is an Latvian gelding, born on 02-02-1992 in Latvia. His father is the thoroughbred Babruisks Ang xx and born out of the mare Gastra (Latvian). Damsire is the Hanoverian Gerolds. Bogor moved to the Netherlands when he was 3 years old. At the age of 5 Bogor moved together with Sabine to Crete. Both Bogor and Kriti are the private horses of Sabine and Manolis. They use them for the guiding of the horse riding trips.

Salvador
Big and black. He is a greek warmblood, gelding, 173 cm high and born in 2001. He is bred for the show jumping. He is 1 year younger than his full brother L'amoure, with the same father and mother.

Camai is a Welsh A, mare and born on 18-04-1998. She is only 1,18 cm high and has a very calm mood. She is born in the Netherlands. Her father is Yaverland Carousel and her mother Penywrolod Sian, Damsire is Tyisha Coughdrop.  With us she gave birth to the mare Odysseia's Afroditi.
